Offices, retail, agricultural offices and workshops

Comfort systems for the people. Refrigeration is somebody else’s trade.

In a valley built on produce, that distinction matters more than it does anywhere else, and stating it plainly saves everybody a wasted visit.

The premises we look after

Small commercial across Salinas and the valley

Offices and suites

Professional suites, agency offices and clinics in town. Rooftop packaged units and splits, zoning that somebody reconfigured years ago, filter programmes, and a written record per unit so the next person is not guessing.

Agricultural and packing offices

The office, the scale house, the welfare block, the break room and the QA room — the parts of the operation where people work rather than where produce is stored. Often the most neglected buildings on a large site.

Retail units

Door-open trading, west-facing glass and one packaged unit expected to cope with both. Honest conversations about air curtains and vestibules, including when they are not worth it.

Workshops and light industrial

Units with tall doors, high bays and a process that makes heat. Destratification, spot heating and extraction, sized for how the space is actually worked rather than for its floor area.

Restaurants and cafes

Where hood exhaust and dining-room comfort are one problem. We measure the make-up air, because a room that will not hold temperature at service usually has a building being pulled into a vacuum by its own hood.

Landlords and managers

Attend, diagnose, photograph, price, report, and authorise nothing without your written say-so. Annual condition surveys per unit across a portfolio.

The boundary

What we will not take on, and why we say it first

Commercial refrigeration

Cold rooms, coolers, freezers, blast chillers, vacuum coolers and process cooling are a different trade. Different equipment, different refrigerants, different certification, different failure consequences, and in this valley a failure that ruins a crop rather than a comfortable afternoon.

We will say so on the telephone, before anybody drives anywhere. If the room has produce in it, the call is not ours.

Controlled-atmosphere and process work

Anything where a specified temperature, humidity or gas composition is part of a product standard rather than a comfort preference. That is engineering with a specification attached, and the specification comes from a buyer, an auditor or a regulator rather than from a contractor.

What we will do around it

The offices, the welfare and break rooms, the QA and admin space, the workshop and the plant room ventilation that keeps the people comfortable while the specialists look after the produce. That is a large amount of work on most sites and it is frequently nobody’s responsibility.

Why we put it on the website

Because a firm that says yes to everything and works it out later costs you a day and a call-out. Telling you at the start what we are not is the quickest way to be useful about what we are.

Planned maintenance

A schedule that fits a working week

Filters at an interval that suits your actual air rather than a default — and in this valley, on a site near fields or a road, that interval is usually shorter than the label suggests. Coils cleaned, drains proved, belts and contactors inspected, charge and combustion measured, and the readings entered against last year’s.

One document per site listing every unit, where it is, what it serves, its age from its serial number and its last readings. If you change contractor, it goes with you.

A dusty pleated filter being drawn out of the filter rack of an air handler, with a clean one waiting on the floor.
